About Us

Fibres West Inc recently became incorporated as an association in 2010 and is holding its first event as an independent organization in October 2011.

We are committed to providing a well managed residential event which brings people together from different textile fields for a week of high quality learning and exchange.

We encourage inspiration, challenge and creativity within the contemporary textile community by conducting in-depth workshops by tutors who are leaders in their area of textile and fibre art practice.

Since its first event in 1992, under the auspices of The Australian Forum for Textile Arts Ltd (TAFTA), Fibres West has held an event every three years. Its primary focus has been to provide a high level of textile tuition to Western Australians, who otherwise had to travel at considerable expense (in both time and money) to attend an Eastern states textile Forum.

Currently 10 tutors are invited to lead 5-day residential workshops and students are given every opportunity to immerse themselves in a technique.

Over the years, Fibres West has invited many Australian and International tutors to teach at the event, with an emphasis placed on utilizing local talent. And as Fibres West events have grown in strength and reputation, they have become increasingly well attended by people outside Western Australia!
