Eco-Couture

Combine natural dyeing, hand felting and embellishing techniques to create your own unique couture dress using 100% silk and merino wool. Concoct dye baths with Australian bush plants sourced sustainably from the Bunbury region to allow stunning seasonal colour hues to emerge. Experiment with different mordants [mineral salts] and the chemical effects on cloth in their metal form. Construct garment fit and size through the felting process. Add your own personal touch of embellishment using collected recycled fabrics and found objects to attach by hand or machine for a stunning addition to your wardrobe. (Tutor will supply wool tops, silk and silk gauze. Materials fee about $65 per student.)

After graduating at the London College of Fashion in the mid 80’s, Charlene O’Brien established her own fashion label ECO LOGIKA®. Charlene is recognised internationally as an eco textile designer who combines raw organic fibres, hand spun silks, recycled remnants, organic Australian merino wool and luxurious sustainable silks, fused with various constructive and embellished techniques to create stunningly elegant, ultra feminine garments by hand and machine. Her enticing colour palette of neutral antique hues, hand dyed in natural botanicals, is highlighted by vibrant appliqué and beadwork using glass, shell and semi-precious stone.
