Mark-Making on Cloth - Extending Dye/Print Techniques
Working with the ‘deconstructed’ or ‘breakdown’ printing technique which uses
Procion dyes and a silkscreen in a very free and spontaneous manner, students will
discover exciting ways to create unique cloth that is rich in colour and depth. In addition,
exploration of many other dye and print methods will enable endless possibilities
for layering of imagery and process. Techniques covered will include polychromatic
screen printing, unusual ways to make stencils and resists (including soy wax), handpainting,
block and mono printing, and the use of textile paints and oil sticks. This
workshop is suitable for all levels of experience. (Dyes, inks, chemicals, etc. will be provided by Tutor: Fee $45 - $50.)
Linda originally trained in graphic design and worked in advertising during the
70s. Her engagement with colour and design, as well as an interest in dressmaking
and fabrics led her to into further education at Curtin University, where she
completed a B.A. (Hons) in Art with a Fibre/Textile Major in 1999. Linda has now
set up a home studio where she continues her exploration of print and dye, as well
as machine embroidery and fabric manipulation techniques such as Cloque, selling
her work through WA galleries and group exhibitions. Teaching workshops has
become a rewarding and enjoyable part of her art practice since 2004.
