Fibres West events are held every three years at Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School in Gelorup, on the southern outskirts of Bunbury in the south west of Western Australia.
Bunbury Cathedral Grammar School is a progressive, modern private school catering to over 1000 students aged from kindergarten to year 12. The contemporary school buildings are surrounded by a serene, natural bush setting – the school is hardly visible from the road. Upon arrival, a sense of space and tranquility is immediate. The school provides an ideal place to become immersed in a week of textile activity, to enjoy community with like-minded souls or escape into private thought. Definitely bring a camera and a sketchbook!
The school buildings comprise administration, recreation, teaching and residential facilities. Rooms are chosen carefully by the Fibres West Committee, with particular attention paid to their intended purpose. There are excellent areas suited to wet work activities such as dyeing and felting, other areas with high tables and stools, rooms with regular desks and seating and also areas with large open floor space and casual seating. By October 2011, the school expects to have completed the building of disabled access throughout the grounds and buildings
Accommodation is twin share in a wing comprising four or five rooms, a kitchenette and bathroom facilities. Linen is provided, but participants will need to bring their own pillows and blankets. Laundry facilities (washer, dryer, trough and iron / ironing boards) are available in each wing. There is ample parking space on site. All meals from the evening of Sunday October 9 to the morning of Saturday October 15 2011 are included. Special diets are catered for on request.
Participants coming from interstate or overseas will receive assistance with pillows and blankets if required. Planes, trains and buses will be met if you let us know when you are coming.
Please note that smoking is not permitted anywhere on the premises, either indoors or outdoors.
