Fantasy Floral Embellishments
Tutor: Jessica Grady (UK)
This workshop is all about colour and pattern and transforming a range of recycled materials to create floral inspired mixed media textile artworks. Think of a series of fabric samples, a larger framed textile artwork or a floral panel for a wearable outcome.
We begin by transforming materials such as the humble washer, old bubble wrap, recycled fabrics and packaging, and turn these into colourful embellishments using various paint methods, heat processes, and material manipulation. The potential of materials and how to give them a new lease of life with a sprinkle of creativity will know no bounds!
Sampling on fabric will present ideas for hand stitch, creating floral forms using the transformed embellishments. Experiment with motifs and composition, colour palettes, 3D forms, vertical beaded stamens, pleated and folded sequin petals, and twisted couched vines and stems, enhanced with decorative hand stitching.
Sampling is a great way to try multiple techniques and discover what works best for you, to carry forward into your final project and other artwork ideas, skilfully supported by your tutor. This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience, from mixed media beginners to stitching experts who want to try something new.
