Artist
Dianne Strahan (Western Australia)
A textile artist focused on botanical printing and dyeing over the past 15 years, Dianne Strahan’s work most recently has grown from her love of Eucalypts. Her work has always been site-specific and in recent years the ‘site’ has grown to encompass a 50km radius of Narrogin.
She is currently working on a multi-faceted project to discover the potential colours of the unique local Eucalypts. As part of this project, she has spent time in the field studying each species, done scientific research on dye methods and has a growing understanding of botany and geology.
Leaves and bark, along with items of discarded rusty metal found while walking add to her treasure trove of possibilities. Fabric or wool dyed or printed from these finds are used in her textile pieces.
Key Exhibitions include Porongurup Art Exhibition (2024, winner with Annette Nykiel), Cultivating-Slow-Making Exhibition, Mundaring Arts Centre (2023) We Three and Trees - NEXIS, Narrogin group exhibition (2022, also We Three again in Rocky Terrain 2024), The Alternative Archive: Common Ground (2019). Work currently in East End Gallery, Beverly and Millbrook Gallery, Williams
